Phase 2: Collection of data

Brief summary
On 17/06/08, on Tuesday of week 10,
armed with our BRAUN tympanic thermometer,
fox sweets, the table to collect data;
we went around in NYP library, looking for subjects.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Raw Data collected

How was the sampling taken?
  • Simple Random Sampling
  • We managed to have a sample of 20 girls & 10 guys

Environment?
  • Air-conditioned place

What did we do to ensure consistency when sampling?
  • The same person took the tympanic temperature [Girls - Li lin, Guys - Marco]
  • The same type of tympanic thermometer was used.
Roles
Taking of tympanic temperature:Marco Aizawa, Li lin
Photographer: Bernadette
Writing of data: Asyiqin, Xin Xin

here it goes! =)

Most importantly, we had great fun collecting the samples together!!!
We would like to reach out to the sporting schoolmates and say
A very BIG thank you!
(^^!)

**Watch out for phase3, coming soon =p

Phase 1: Planning

Objective of the project
To apply what we have learnt in statistics
To obtain raw data and analyze them

Purpose of study
To find out whether the positioning of the head when taking tympanic temperature have an impact on the readings

Null hypothesis
There is no relationship between the tympanic temperature taken when the head is 90˚ and 45˚ taken on the right ear.

Hypothesis
There is a positive relationship between the tympanic temperatures taken when head is 90˚ and 45˚ taken on the right ear.

Independent variables
Positioning of the head

Dependent variables
Reading of tympanic temperature

Extraneous variables

  • Exercise
  • Strength of how the person turn
  • Hot or cold drink
  • Environment temperature

Conceptionalization
Tympanic temperature: body temperature taken from the ear

Operationalization

  • Temperatures are taken by tympanic thermometer(BRAUN).
  • One temperature is taken when the head is 90˚, the other one is taken when the head is 45˚ turning to the left.
  • Both temperatures are taken 2 times on the right ear.
