Phase 3:
Analyzing Data Collected

Based on our raw data, we have accumulated 4 reading in all:


(1)
1st reading of tympanic temperature (45° of the neck)
(2)
1st reading of tympanic temperature (90°of the neck)
(3)
2nd reading of tympanic temperature (45°of the neck)
(4)
2nd reading of tympanic temperature (90°of the neck)

Using the SPSS, we compute the data of 1st reading & 2nd reading and find the mean for each degree (45°& 90°)



From there, we drew up a scatter plot with a regression line & it is as follows:


We also did one based on gender and it look as follows

We did the Pearson’s correlation coefficient & the reading is as follows:



Interpretation of reading:
Pearson’s R: 0.808
Thus, it indicates that there is a positive correlation & it is very strong relationship


Conclusion

In a nutshell, based on the interpretation of the readings, we will reject the null hypothesis & we conclude that there is a positive relationship between the tympanic temperatures taken when head is 90˚ and 45˚ taken on the right ear.


Reflection

Initially, coming up with a topic to do statistics on was really mind-stretching! However, we managed to go through the obstacle and was all set and ready to start. Overall, we were glad that we had the opportunity to do this experiment or research. We had a great time doing this project especially when collecting data needed. In addition, we have learnt how to collect data and use the SPSS to interpret the results. There are some areas that we feel that we can improve on. We felt that we could have done more accurately in collecting the raw data. This is because, the degree of the 45°turn could have been more standardized.
